This weekend I am exhibiting a monotype in Las Palmas at Gran Canaria Art Gallery together with several other artists. It is such an honour to be invited to display my art at this joint summer exhibition. 22nd of july to 29th of july.
I have finally reached one of my lifegoals to become an international artist. I hope this is one of many cities to come where I will exhibit.
This is the piece I am exhibiting “Himalaya” Monotype, 2016.
Monotyping is a printmaking process with oil on paper. There is only one original.
“Painting everyday all day”
“Måla hela dan varje dag” (Swedish)
The background music is #Kleerup “Hela dan varje dag”
There was people coming and going throughout the day and I made some new connections and saw fellow artists I haven’t seen in a long time. It felt great being part of the local Arts Collective again after focusing on two other art projects for the past two years.
My painting is the red and black at the bottom. I saw several great pieces at the exhibition that I liked, both in Printmaking techniques and also some abstract paintings.
Last week my cousine, her kids and I went to an open recykling workshop at our local cultural centre “Kulturmagasinet”. And let me tell you my creativity has been at a low point for quite some time now but playing with kids and just letting go of all the preassure of creating professionally, sure did the trick. We played with colors, glued stuff on stuff and just went crazy with it. We had a blast and there were no time to think.. Only time to feel.
And since then my creativity has been blooming. Know any kids around you? Set up a crafts day and see what happens! Worst case scenario you will have paint everywhere so make sure you got the right clothes for it. Rock on’ ♡
How do one start experiencing flow? I recently listened to a lecture about the book “Flow: the psychology of optimal experience “ By Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. They talked about how you experience flow when you do something thats enough challenging for the brain to make an effort but not stressfull on you. Time just flyes by when you experience this and you get a lot done.
I naturally experience flow when I create and for me its a calm, stable feeling where all of your resources are in sync and things flow effortlessly throughout the day.
I thought about an exercise that can get you into flow quicker. At least for me. You should try this before you start working on something and please feel free to copy this list or share this post anywhere.
Aisandbergs’ shortcut to flow:
1. Calm down by focusing on your breathing. Feel your stomach move up and down.
2. Start doing things slow and with clear intentions.
3. Listen to the silence/noice around you. Just notice it. Don’t be bothered by it.
4. Be in the present moment by forgetting your thoughts and focus on one thing at a time. Focus on what you are doing.
5. Snap up on images/words/ideas that come to you during the day.
6. Do things right away as they unfold throughout the day instead of just putting it off. “Get that hot potatoe off your hands”
7. Don’t look on the clock so much. Set alarms for your next meeting or for breaks etc.
This weekend has been wonderful. All the colors by the ocean really inspires me as usual. The deep red, blues and sandy beige. The ocean air in my lungs, the sun kissing my skin and the trees comfort surrounding me. The weather has been phenomenal. It usually isn’t in northern Sweden, we are located as north as Alaska is in the Us. So naturally we have daylight 24/7 right now which creates this amazing light with pink skies in the evening.
All those pink pastels really sets the mood for something new…
The biggest obstacle in life is fear. Especially for artists in their art career. We are often very careful creatures, sensitive and riskaverse. I’m afraid to fail and I’m afraid to succeed. The fear of change is something everybody feels I think. Even when the change is good. Humans are creatures of habits. But in order to step it up to the next level in life we need to let go of fear.
The artist Georgia O’keefe once said “I’ve been absolutely terrified every moment of my life and I’ve never let it keep me from doing a single thing that I wanted to do.”
I try to live with that motto everyday.
A spiritual teacher once told me that if I want to get rid of something I should visualize all those feelings as an object and then imagine that I am standing somewhere high up and then I let it go. I should imagine how the object is falling down, far away from me. The feeling “Fear” I visualize as a dark cloud pulling far away from me with the wind.
I started painting with oilcolors again. It feels really great. Lately I’ve mostly been focused on my Illustrations. But there is a certain feel to oilcolors. The fact that you are standing by an easel sharpens you up a bit. And I love the new arches oil colour papers I bought in the Us. There is a special finish to the surface thats very different. It’s a satin finish that reminds me of sand.
I have traveled to Auburn, Maine for some inspiration and to take care of my lovely family here. So far its been really sunny most days and my paintings are starting to flow. I have been in a rut this summer since I completely exhausted myselfe after the charity auction for the homeless and the festival I helped plan with the local museum for 9 months.
When I went to the beach the other day things just started flowing. So I am finishing some of my already started #streetart inspired #newstyle #illustrations before I get started on my new project #thebigtwelve
And the rumour has it someone might display my art over here at the local art walk. What an honour. I hope they do that.
To keep up with whats going on when I am over here check out the hashtag: #AiSandbergUsa
In translation “The human and the city”. 2014. This is my contribution for the charity auction #BornToBeEqual held tomorrow night at one of the largest night clubs in town. I am so grateful for being a part of this journey. I have learned so much from being a co-founder to an auction. Thank you Linga Sjöqvist who asked me to join this exciting and not always easy journey. I am pleased by the result so far but lets hope tomorrow night will be a success.
